About Scendira
11:47 PM · SEVEN TABS OPEN

Buying perfume online shouldn't feel like a gamble.

It's 11:47 PM. A Reddit thread where forty strangers disagree. A half-watched YouTube review. A $38 perfume bottle in your cart, and you're still not sure. So you close the app, again.

So, we built Scendira because that kept happening to us too.

And because we knew there was a better way.

What is Scendira

Scendira is an AI scent-discovery engine for Arabic and Middle Eastern fragrance: a decision engine, not a store. We read everything so you don't have to, hundreds of thousands of real buyers' experiences, turned into honest recommendations matched to you.

The problem

The problem with buying perfume online.

Thousands of options. No way to choose.

Fragrantica lists over 130,000 perfumes. Nothing tells you which ones are yours: how they'll wear on you, for your occasion, on your budget.

Blind buys are expensive.

A full bottle runs $20 to $600, and the reviews describe someone else's skin, someone else's nose, someone else's life. "Blind buy" is so common the communities shortened it to three letters: BUB.

Fragrance vocabulary is designed to confuse.

They say"Woody amber with balsamic undertones"
We sayWarm vanilla mixed with pine. Sweetness that feels like it has weight.

You shouldn't have to learn a language to get a straight answer.

The origin

It started in Dubai.

When Amrita, Scendira's founder, moved to Dubai, fragrance was everywhere. Not as a product but as a way of life: woven into the culture, the malls, the majlis, the person walking past you leaving a trail of oud and amber. In the Gulf, smelling extraordinary isn't vanity. It's hospitality, identity, tradition.

She became obsessed. She spent her first year smelling over 1,100 perfumes and learning what those fragrances actually smell like, discovering the hard way that no tool could reliably tell her whether something would work on her skin, for her occasion.

She had spent 15 years building recommendation systems for some of the world's biggest eCommerce brands. She knew the tools to solve this existed. Nobody had applied them to fragrance yet.

So she built it.

"I smelled 1,100 perfumes so you don't have to."
Amrita · Founder, Scendira
The name

Why Scendira?

The name has two layers. Both are real places to stand.

Scendira
SCENT × KANDOURAthe Gulf robe, perfumed with bakhoor smokeThe garment itself carries the fragrance.
DIRA ← DEIRADubai's perfume souk districtYour guide takes her name from the souk.

Scent, woven into what you wear.

In the Middle East, Kandouras and abayas are perfumed directly with bakhoor smoke, so the garment becomes a carrier of fragrance. When a local Emirati walks past, they smell extraordinary head to toe. Not from a spritz on the wrist, but because the very thing they're wearing has been infused with scent. Here, fragrance isn't a finishing touch. It's woven into who you are.

Dira, your souk insider.

Deira is the famous perfume-souk district of Dubai, where the city's fragrance history lives. Dira, your Scent Guide, takes her name from Deira. She's the one who knows every shop, every scent, and exactly what will work for you.

What we believe

Three things we'll never compromise.

You shouldn't have to learn a language to get a good answer.

Real people don't say "prominent sillage with an oud-forward drydown." They ask if it'll last, if it's worth it, if it's them. We talk the way you talk.

The truest advice comes from people, not brands.

The most trusted resource in this whole world is a spreadsheet a community built by hand, because nothing better existed. We took that seriously. Every recommendation is built on real community knowledge, and no brand can pay to change the answer.

Arabic perfume isn't what you think it is.

It's not the heavy, smoky oud you're picturing. Most of it is sweet, warm, and gourmand, the vanilla-and-amber world you already love, just better and more affordable than you'd expect.
